Meatballs in Tomato Stew (Izmir Köfte)

Ingredients
- 800 g Canned tomatoes
- 500 g Ground beef
- 1/2 Onion
- 1 clove Garlic
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- a pinch Pepper
- 1/2 tsp Allspice
- 1 tsp Cumin powder
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 3 Potatoes
- 2 Bell peppers
- 1/4 tsp Salt (for finishing)
- a pinch Pepper (for finishing)
- 1 tsp Honey
- Plenty Love
Instructions
- Finely chop onion and garlic. Mix well with ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, allspice, cumin powder.
- Divide mixture into 24 equal portions. Brown in olive oil.
- Cut potatoes into quarters and steam. Cut bell peppers lengthwise into 8 pieces.
- Add the canned tomatoes to step 2, then add the potatoes from step 3 and warm through.
- Add honey and love to step 4. Taste and add finishing salt and pepper.
Notes
These are savory meatballs with a kick of spice. In Turkey, they’re often made with lamb or beef.
