Family Cooking with Sisters Aged 8 and 5: A Fun Day in the Kitchen

Today we welcomed two sisters—an 8-year-old in 3rd grade and her 5-year-old younger sister—along with their mother for a Family Cooking class.
The older sister had asked to attend a cooking class, which is why they joined us today. Since she often cooks at home, she was already very skilled at cutting, mixing, and plating. Watching her big sister, the younger one also worked hard and did wonderfully. It was heartwarming to see the older sister making sure her sibling stayed safe, showing how close they are.
With their gentle mother watching over them, they poured their hearts into cooking, and of course, the results were delicious!
- Healthy Tonkatsu with miso sauce: They loved it, and even the younger sister—who usually eats very little—finished half!
- Shira-ae (tofu paste with vegetable ): They said the carrots were sweet and tasty, and they finished it all.
- Temari sushi: They enjoyed trying smoked salmon for the first time, and also made their own tuna mayonnaise version.
- Miso soup: Made with kombu and dried tuna broth. They tasted it step by step and were amazed by how the flavor changed with each ingredient.
- Uiro (Japanese steamed cake): They loved it so much they shouted “Delicious!” and said they would definitely make it at home.
It turned into such a fun cooking class. I truly hope they’ll come again!
