37 Guests from the U.S.: A Memorable Day of Cooking at Kura

37 Guests from the U.S.
Today we welcomed 37 guests from the United States—our largest group ever. With the guide, nine helpers, my husband, and myself, there were a total of 49 people in the house. It’s amazing that so many could fit!
In the old days, Japanese homes were designed to host ceremonies and gatherings, so perhaps that’s why they can still welcome large groups like this.
We began with greetings and explanations in the Japanese-style room, where everyone gathered together. After that, we divided into three groups for the cooking lesson.
For the meal, 13 guests and the guide ate in the Western-style room where the cooking took place, and the rest enjoyed their meal back in the Japanese-style room.
Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time cooking, and they told us the food was delicious. Many said they would try making the dishes again at home.
The last photo is of my dear friends from the volunteer group who always support me—I’m truly grateful for them.
