A Special Reunion at Kura Cooking with My English Teacher and Friends

Today my English teacher Kathy came to Kura Cooking with her childhood friend Kim, who is visiting from the United States.
Although I’ve been taking online lessons with Kathy for over two years, this was actually the first time we met in person. I was a little nervous at first, but once we started talking, everything felt just like our usual lessons, and we enjoyed cooking together right away.

Since Kathy is vegetarian, the menu included:

  • A variety of temari sushi (ball-shaped sushi)
  • Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), with and without shrimp
  • Shira-ae (tofu and vegetable salad)
  • Daifuku

Everyone made the temari sushi in their own style, so each plate was unique. The chawanmushi, shira-ae, and daifuku were all prepared very smoothly. They were especially impressed by how delicious the daifuku was. We made two kinds—sweet red bean paste and chestnut paste—and they enjoyed both.

Kim was interested in butterfly pea tea, so we served it as a welcome drink. By adding roselle syrup, they were able to enjoy the beautiful color change as well.

After the meal, we took commemorative photos in front of the gold folding screens in the main house. It was such a joyful and memorable time. I was truly happy they could come and visit.
