In January’s cooking class
January’s cooking lesson was about dishes for the last day of winter.
I served home-made Chinese quince hot drink as a welcome drink.
Then we made 7 dishes:
・Cooked dried sardines with sour plums and leeks
・Steamed turnips with fish
・Cooked Chinese cabbage and leeks
・Rolled sushi in Korean style
・Special medicinal miso soup
・Stir-fried roasted soybeans with miso and leeks
・Japanese chestnut cake
We cooked dried sardines seasoned only with sour plums in a pressure cooker, so they became soft and we could eat all of the fish including the bones.
We grated turnips then steamed them with white-meat fish.
We cooked Chinese cabbage and leeks in a big pot. This dish is easy to make. We can eat a lot of Chinese cabbage.
Rolled sushi in Korean style was gorgeous and it was very colorful.
The special medicinal miso soup was a healthy soup. Fresh home-made miso was really good.
Stir-fried roasted soybeans with miso and leeks go well with rice
Chestnut cake needs sweet chestnuts but we can use chestnuts left over from making Osechi dishes.
It was difficult to make, but the other dishes were simple.
I hope you make these dishes at home on the last day of winter.
There are some recipes in my blog “recipes” on my home page too!
