Party Menu Lesson: Japanese Cuisine for Home Parties in America

A guest who previously joined our Afternoon Tea lesson came back—this time to learn Japanese cooking. We focused on techniques for hosting home parties in America.

Since they wanted to try shabu-shabu, we made a refreshing summer-style shabu-shabu salad. In the U.S., thinly sliced shabu-shabu meat isn’t available, so I also taught them how to handle whole cuts of meat.

Cucumber “boats” make a beautiful party dish, and temari sushi can be kept wrapped in plastic wrap until serving. Miso soup is currently trending in America, and it seems they’ll be using Kura Cooking’s miso in their own parties.

For dessert, I suggested making colorful uiro (traditional steamed sweets), cutting them into bite-sized pieces for a festive finish. With a few creative arrangements, I’m sure they’ll be able to host a wonderful home party.
