SDG’s Accessories

I love Kaneko Kohyo’s pottery.

Giyaman is the best of them all! It is a kind of porcelain with a special glass like glaze.

Giyaman plates were exported to many foreign countries, England, France, German, Finland, America, and so on. A few years ago, Giyaman plate were used for a dinner party at the Palace of Versailles.

Giyaman plates became famous at that moment.

Then, a lot of restaurants all over the world ordered them and used them.

Just the other day, I visited the Kaneko Kohyo gallery and saw some very nice accessories on display.

They were made from pieces of Giyaman that were cracked, broken or otherwise couldn’t be sold.

They say that there are as many of these irregular Giyaman plates as there are for sale.

In fact, the same amount of human labor is used to make them…

Rie is a kintsugi artist (Rie @rie_no_ito), which means she puts broken pottery pieces back together with gold. She creates Giyaman accessories using kintsugi techniques.

I admire her wonderful works. I bought a brooch and earrings for me.

I love them, so I wear them every day.

I also bought earrings for my favorite teacher as a birthday present.

I hope she likes them.
