Samurai dolls for the Boys’ Festival

DSC_4743

A set of  Samurai dolls is displayed during the Boys’ Festival season.

Every year I display them from the end of March.

Japanese generally celebrate May 5th as “Children’s Day” which is a Japanese national holiday.

Another name of  “Children’s Day” is “The Boys’ Festival”.

We pray for boys  to grow and be healthy.

There are special Japanese sweets for children, “Chimaki”, a cake wrapped in bamboo leaves  and

“Kashiwamochi” , a cake wrapped in an oak leaf.

I’m looking forward to eating them.
