In January’s Cooking Class

The New Year has come and we had January’s cooking class in a fresh mood.

The welcome flowers were some daffodils from my garden which smelled good.

The welcome drink was “Honey Chinese quince tea” which is good for sore throats. It is a good tea fir this dry season. It helps people who have caught a cold and are tired.

I explained about the menu while we drank the welcome tea.

The menu of this month was for “Setsubun”, which is the traditional end of winter.

It consisted of sardine spring rolls, mixed lily bulbs and sour plums, boiled salty pork and radish,

steamed lotus with special sauce, rolled sushi with avocado, soup of sake lees with chicken and leeks

and dried persimmons with sweet red beans

Every student was surprised at the interesting combination of ingredients.

A Thai lady who is married to a Japanese came.

She enjoyed cooking Japanese dishes。She learned about broth and Japanese seasonings.

In this class we often try dishes. We are happy to experience new tastes.

Everybody, come to taste and become a good cook.

February 3rd is “Setubun”, please eat the delicious Setsubun dishes.
