A Baby crape myrtle

サルスベリ子ども

I found a baby crape myrtle(a Indian lilack) in my garden.

I didn’t notice it until it bloomed.

There is a big old crape myrtle tree in my garden, too.

Its flowers have been open since July (for about 100 days).

Its Japanese name is “hyakunichikou ””hyakunichi” means 100, “kou” means red.

It means red flowers open for 100days.

People say the trunk is so smooth that not even a monkey can’t climb it.

Another Japanese name is “Sarusuberi”,”Saru” means monkey, “Suberi” means slip.

It is a popular tree because in summer there are few trees which have flowers, so many people want to plant one in their garden.

But, it is an expensive tree.

Luckily, I have a baby one. I will take good care of it.
